Scotty Cameron Phantom X

Hot List Gold 2023

Our Review:

WHAT IT DOES: Watching Scotty Cameron work with multiple materials in mallets is like watching a strikeout artist work his way through a lineup with six different breaking balls. This line of 10 mallets mixes milled 303 stainless steel and aircraft-grade aluminum in arrangements that run from moderate-stability options like the X5 to maximum-stability options like the X12. Aside from the aluminum-faced X12, most have stainless-steel faces, and aluminum in the sole and steel weights in the toe and heel provide even more stability. WHY WE LIKE IT: With more mallets than any manufacturer, this comprehensive lineup includes multiple-hosel options and alignment styles to fit several kinds of strokes. Read more>>>

Which One's For Me?
5
A multi-material, solid, winged mallet, it mixes 303 stainless steel with a 6061 aluminum sole plate for high forgiveness. The mid-bend shaft is designed to minimize face rotation and works best with a straighter stroke.
5.5
Based on the Phantom X 11 footprint, this multi-material, solid, winged mallet mixes 303 stainless steel with a 6061 aluminum sole plate for high forgiveness. The shaft orientation is designed to works best with more of an arcing, blade-like stroke.
5s
Built on the parallel open winged mallet frame of the X5, this compact mallet mixes a 303 stainless steel body and centered 6061 aluminum sole plate for high stability. Nearly face-balanced, the zero-offset shaft is nearly centered and encourages a straight back straight through stroke.
7
The parallel wings on this mallet are straighter than on the X 5 mallets for even more stability. The multi-material head mixes a 303 stainless steel body and centered 6061 aluminum sole plate for high stability. Nearly face-balanced, the mid-bend shaft is ideal for players with straighter strokes.
7.5
Setup in the same footprint as the X 7, the straight parallel wings add greater perimeter weighting for more stability. The multi-material head mixes a 303 stainless steel body and centered 6061 aluminum sole plate. It features a small slant neck to better suit those with more of an arcing stroke.
9
The solid stainless steel face and wings match the shape of the X 5 but the space in the middle is filled in with a black aiming feature with a centered white line made of 6061 aircraft grade aluminum. The single mid-bend shaft creates a near face-balanced setup that makes it best for straighter strokes.
9.5
Built on the X 9 platform, it switches to a small slant “jet” neck. This makes it a good fit for strokes that have more arcing flow to them.
11
This high moment of inertia forgiving shape features a squarish profile with extreme rear perimeter heel and toe winglets for extra stability. It uses a milled 303 stainless steel face, topline, body and wings along with an aluminum flange/sole. The single mid-bend shaft results in a nearly face-balanced setup favoring a straighter stroke style.
11.5
Built on the X 11 platform, the squarish shape with extreme rear perimeter heel and toe winglets uses a low-bend shaft designed to help the player produce a more flowing arced putting stroke,
12
This update to this larger, high stability mallet includes a thinned out mid-section of 6061 aluminum in the body, face and sole. That's surrounded by heavier milled 303 stainless steel on the heel and toe perimeter. It uses a full length white aiming line on the black body section and is built with a mid-bend shaft for a near face-balanced setup that is best for straighter strokes.

Player Comments
Medium-Handicapper
"The raised alignment aide on the 9 allows for consistently perfect alignment. Putter felt like a natural extension of my arms. The ball grabbed the ground and stayed on line right off the face. No differentiation in feel on short, medium or long putts. A model of consistency."

High-Handicapper
"Quality look and construction. A well refined tool, with purposeful design. Simple alignment. Pleasant, clicky sound. Maybe a bit heavy but that creates momentum that propels the ball. Easy to hit putts straight. Ball walks right down the line."
Handicap, 12
Low-Handicapper
"It's beautifully balanced and easy when it comes to alignment. Ball rolls end over end consistently and the size of the head gives you confidence standing over the ball."
