TaylorMade

Stealth 2 Plus/Stealth 2/Stealth 2 HD

Hot List Gold 2023

Our Review:

WHAT IT DOES: TaylorMade’s large carbon crown spills over the edges of the perimeter to yield as much as a 78 percent weight savings compared to the steel it replaces. This results in additional stability (especially on the Stealth 2 HD) and lowers the center of gravity (more so on the Stealth 2 Plus). The three models use the saved weight of a carbon-composite crown differently to optimize performance for specific player types. The Stealth 2 Plus offers subtle game enhancement for elite players. The Stealth 2 pumps up the distance and launch angle for average players. The new Stealth 2 HD is the company’s first extreme game-improvement hybrid.

WHY WE LIKE IT: TaylorMade’s engineers long have been pushing the boundaries of flexible faces and the complex use of carbon composites. But what also makes these hybrids special is their simple solutions. Take their size, for example. These heads might get progressively larger in the three models, but the faces stay shallow to keep the CGs low. A flatter sole (lower to the ground at the heel and toe) further drops the CG to improve launch in the iron-like Stealth 2 Plus as much as it does for the all-purpose Stealth 2. Read more>>

Which One's For Me?
Stealth 2
This compact model is aimed at elite players looking to control spin and produce a flatter-trajectory shot. It offers the most workability of the Stealth 2 hybrids. Its adjustable hosel allows for more precise distance and lie angle tweaking.
Stealth 2 HD
Built with a combined focus on forgiveness and distance, it produces a neutral flight. It should meet the needs of the majority of golfers and features a clubhead size slightly smaller than Stealth 2 HD but much more robust than Stealth 2 Plus.
Stealth 2 Plus
The largest of the three hybrids, its focus is on forgiveness while adding a measure of draw bias for those players who struggle with the slice in their longer clubs. A lie angle two degrees more upright than the standard lie angle of the Stealth 2 Plus further encourages more of a draw. It also features the shallowest face to inspire confidence in players who need more help in their hybrid game. Look for higher spin and higher peak height with this model, as well.

Medium-Handicapper
"Definitely a fairway finder or good for long second shot into a par-5. Very long flight, consistent, repeatable. super easy to hit. never grabbed. Slid through grass like there was Teflon on the bottom. Once I got dialed in with correct shaft, everything was high, straight, dead center."

High-Handicapper
"Beautiful carbonfiber on top. You don't have to see the meshing to know it's there on the crown. It's just beautiful the way it transitions into the face. Just the right balance of matte and gloss. Terrific sound/feel. Loud in a non-obnoxious way. The perfect combination of feedback with explosiveness. Very easy to get up in the air without ballooning, you have control with how high you want to hit it."
Handicap, 15
Low-Handicapper
“I have the sensation I’m holding something substantial without it being heavy. Powerful sound and trajectory. Baby draws with distance.”

Description

For the first time, TaylorMade is releasing a trio of Rescue clubs within the same family: Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2 and Stealth 2 HD, each designed with a specific golfer and performance goal in mind. Stealth 2 Plus Rescue features a compact tour-inspired shape that lends itself to enhanced shot making. It combines the control and workability of a long iron with the added forgiveness of a Rescue. Compared to the original Stealth Rescue, CG is positioned lower in the Stealth 2 head for a more centered CG projection that leads to optimal launch and spin. A mass pad positioned at the back of the club further increases MOI for forgiveness and playability. Stealth 2 HD is new to the family and utilizes a larger but lower overall profile along with internal draw-bias weighting to deliver high launch and easy-to-hit performance. Higher lofts than traditional Rescue clubs promote better launch and help golfers get the ball airborne faster at moderate swing speeds.
