PGA Championship 2023: Listen to the incredible ovation Michael Block received on the first tee on Sunday

May 21, 2023

No matter what happens on Sunday at Oak Hill, Michael Block will always be remembered as the breakout star of the 2023 PGA Championship. And ahead of his final round, the club pro was welcomed like a conquering hero.

Block arrived for his 2 p.m. tee time with Rory McIlroy and if you didn't know any better, you would think it was the 46-year-old who is a four-time major champ. The large crowds roared as he made his way down to the first tee, drawing the bemused smirk we've seen from him all week.

Good stuff. Then after shaking hands with McIlroy—we believe for the first time ever—Block was announced, receiving what Jim Nantz described as "The biggest ovation of the championship so far." Have a look and listen:

Getting a (much) bigger reaction than one of the biggest stars in the game? Absolute goosebumps. Talk about a Block party. We can only imagine how Michael felt.

Unfortunately, Block tugged his opening drive and wound up making a bogey to start a day in which there's a LOT on the line for him. But the crowd has clearly spoken, and Michael Block is already a winner.
