Keen amateur golfer George Harper Junior embarks on the first leg of his Italian golf adventure, in the toe of Italy’s famous boot, Sicily. George visits the luxury Verdura Resort on the southern coastline and unearths some ancient Greek history before heading to Mount Etna, where the oldest golf club in Sicily, Il Picciolo, is situated next to the most active volcano in Europe. Known for its rich food and vibrant culture, Emilia Romagna is a thriving region and has a great golf appetite to match! George explores the historic centre of Bologna, nicknamed The Red City, before playing the oldest golf club in the region, Bologna GC. He then heads to Modena to get a taste of the world famous Parmigiano Reggiano and Balsamic Vinegar before taking on plenty of water hazards and challenges at Modena Golf & Country Club, with a pit-stop finish at Ferrari HQ.
Famous for its wine production, Piemonte is the second largest region in Italy and has no shortage of beautiful landscapes. Set in the Monferrato hills, George visits Margara Golf & Country Club, former host of the Ladies Italian Open and home to two Championship courses. After tasting some of the finest wines in the country, George plays the feature holes of Colline del Gavi GC alongside Head Professional Luca Torchio.
Amateur golfer George Harper Junior continues his Italian golf adventure in the foothills of the Alps. George tours the city of Brescia, Italy’s 2023 Capital of Culture, before visiting Franciacorta GC. Named after the region’s famous sparkling white wine, the club offers 27 holes of lush fairways and pure greens designed by Pete Dye and Marco Croze.
A region full of art and romance, Veneto is best known as the land of Shakespeare but it also offers some breath-taking golf spots. George visits Verona GC and enjoys a personal tour of the course from President Sabina Betti. In the heart of the Verona, George takes in the sights including Juliet’s balcony, the Roman amphitheatre and Castelvecchio bridge. Heading east towards Vicenza, George plays the unique course of Colli Berici GC, which is situated high in the mountains 300m above sea level and presents a stern test for any golfer.
Host George Harper Junior rounds off his trip to Italy in dramatic fashion at the home of adventure, Friuli Venezia Giulia. George’s first stop is Castello di Spessa GC, where the course is set amongst hectares of vineyards and presents the perfect backdrop for a round of golf. After visiting the region’s capital of Trieste, George travels further north of the region into the heart of the Moraine Hills to play Udine GC and cap off his journey with a once in a lifetime experience.
